I think we should pray...

for Daryl specs

It's been twenty-four hours since I popped my Steel Magnolias cherry and I can't stop thinking about it. Wow, that shit's intense. Like every other thing I've been inspired by, it's praying on my mind for many reasons. Firstly, it stuck me that it's just a beautiful film and I personally can't remember the last film I watched that I would summarise as beautiful. Secondly, as if I wasn't missing my ma enough as it was, the central mother-daughter relationship hit a little too clsoe to home. And thirdly, Daryl Hannah's nervous new girl in town-look has appealed to my magpie nature; I'm totally reminded of a kooky Carrie and a faultless Sevigny.
You dig?

Birthday Suit

go ahead JUMP

Alright SO. In a massive effort to see in my twenty-third year in a fabulous Samantha Jones fashion, I wanted to find something a little special. The theme is overdressed left kinda open to my nearest and dearest to interpret any which way they damn well please. Finally getting used to the idea that I'd just go with a mediocre ensemble with the inevitable flash of the pins, the 'jumpsuits' sign caught my eye as I exited Rokit with nothing but a new slip in tow. One of those moments when you end-up congratulating yourself for rooting through many a strange creation for the chance that there just might be a hidden gem awaiting you. Apprehensive at first, especially at the prospect of getting a little hot and bothered on the dance floor in the wee hours, I no longer care. This is the only birthday suit for me. Cue Sammy J-

"You gotta grab [twenty-three] by the balls and say hey world I'm [twenty-three]"

skip the light fantastic

Sometimes there's nothing better than stepping out in style, in that coolest of casual slap dashes that requires minimal effort; no more than a slick of face cake and a fantastic outfit that you literally threw together on some sartorial whim flex. All booked up and ready to go, a cab ride later under the light of the fattest, goldest moon I had ever witnessed we arrived outside Bistrotheque's uber understated entrance. An elegant vodka and coke in the bar spilled into the smoking area where we witnessed a couple of taxi's reversing and commencing and dithering, unsure of the nameless haunt as the ultimate destination. Dinner was served in a modest warehouse den bathed in the low-light of chandeliers. Adrift on a warm Merlot glow it was time for the showbusiness. The Frantastics offered up all the Presley, Cash and polka-dot prom dresses we could ever desire.
One last smoke and then we hit the road, leaving one of the city's best kept twilight secrets exactly as we had found it, nestled amongst trade warehouses and lock-ups.

LIFE SAVER

"Sometimes it looks as above, but it changes its colour and shape depending on what I wear and how I feel. Everything I need can be pulled from the bag . Like a frying pan or a Fliegenklatsche to defend myself, cookies for friends, a coffee table, a pillow to whack over someones head or just a simple bouquet of flowers. Whatever it is I need, I just grab in the bag and pull it out."

So. After swearing off retail therapy forever whilst approaching the 'pay here' sign in Camden treasure trove slash charity shop TRAID, look who was awaiting me. I glanced around, desperado for someone to stop me, to remind me of money's inability to grow on trees but no. I was blissfully uninterrupted. £3.49. Hmm. Things I could buy for £3.49...a cheap and cheerful lippy, lunch, dinner at a stretch. Na. I'm pretty sure my little Italian friend will bring me more happiness. Especially as I have got into the habit of leaving my prettiest possessions dotted around my room for my own personal enjoyment/reminder that I don't need anything. Repeat to self; I DON'T NEED ANYTHING.
Better luck next time.

happy Holland-day

One day, not so long ago, our four favourite gals slurped on 'we're here for you' lunchtime cocktails singing 'Memories' in a cosmopolitan haze. With the news that we are on the cusp of making a whole load of new ones, I indulged. And felt all the better for it. I'm sure there are many out there just like me. We watch, laugh and cry and then get on with our lives for just about long enough to forget our favourite outfits and bury our favourite Sammy-J one-liners. Until one day, we dust off our treasured copy and enjoy it all over again.
It is for the reasons listed above and oh so many more, that I decided to pay a mini CRNY tribute to the fabulous four with some of my favourite outfits that I have collated since my last hit two weeks ago. Still can't champion an ultimate favourite though. It's just not that easy.
Following my own worried inhibitions over the movie sequel, I am now ready.
Bring it on.

Apple of my eye

alpha-betty go-getty

Hiya.
I really just wanted to share this with you. I'm falling asleep at the keyboard with screen pink-eye but I just really wanted you to see this. Sort of like the way you'd want to share a pink sunset with someone. It's flappy-magazine size reminds me of my treasured Chloé clutch. I am suddenly aware of my massive attraction to massive envelope clutches. The idea seems so romantic and laid-back to me. I take one look at the Marc by Marc Magazine clutch and images of strolling through Greenwich Village with a folded newspaper in tow are instantly evoked. Maybe it's because of my weird word fetish but I believe there's something about letters. Something kind of electric. Like the colour of chalk scrawled across a blackboard.

BOY

Happy New Year chaps and chapesses- or HNY according to those in the know, don't you know. Who knows.
Hope yours was delicious. Not much of a Christmas girl myself, I'm starting to think NY is more my thing- certainly in terms of new beginnings and looking forward. I feel excited and I'm not really sure why- but I can't wait to find out. What's the general consensus regarding NY resolutions? Not usually a great believer, I have indulged in a little 'fresh start' spirit myself; three is a magic number-

1. Learn Spanish
2. See family more
3. Keep the monthly smokes count at an all-time low

Alas. I think I am most insufferably excitable over CRNY's future and all the things I hope it will hold. Armed with my own super-geek I am planning a total revamp. It just feels right, right now- as it did in Habitat the other day when my unsuspecting bed was transformed from cosy Cath Kidston to slinky black plus rainbow embroidery. Strange sounding I know but surprisingly sweet like black cherries- and a little velvet cushion thrown in for good measure.
So for 2010, here's to hoping it's a year that flies sky-high.

LB Chapter 2

fruit pastel

For her next trick, Luella conjured her own version of the 80's. The ex-Editor's interpretation was sporty, stream-lined and grafitti-splattered, in a fusion palette of pastels laced with neon. Models, including Kate Moss, stalked the runway with slicked back hair and an even slicker attitude. Luella had generated hype among the fashionati, so much so that Style.com's Armand Limnander tooted Miss Bartley as 'the darling of London's new generation of 'it' girls'. In this bright, young, fun collection, Luella's gift for covetable detail began to prevail, premiering in the form of ice lolly orange pop socks and clogs.
The mod theme that cruised through her previous collection still glimmered occasionally, with same-colour shirt and tie combos and narrow tailoring. Tube dresses worn over mesh leggings hinted at a 1980's Essex gel' on her holidays, while Kate Moss in a slackish tuxedo reminiscent of Le Smoking was chosen to finalé. Clearly, Bartley was excited and taken by so many subcultural influences, even further to that, Luella was painting all kinds of pictures with her earlier collections. Here was a young designer truly in love with youth and style, marrying the two in a subcultural wonderland like never before.

tell me about it..STUD

It's been nine naughty days of nothing BUT I'm hoping these little babies will suffice to save the day. Just look at them. Last pair> in the sale> in my size> MINE. So far, they are my greatest expectation for NYE...I'm just hoping they clash wickedly with the 40's style playsuit I was planning on wearing. Fingers crossed for the outfit coming together in a totally laid-back, hap-hazard, slap-dash way.
I sincerely hope you are all still enjoying turkey sandwiches and tins of Roses. Right now, my fridge makes me excited.

hearts and flowers

What snowy weather we've been having.
It's helping me get into the festive mood, by all means. For some reason this year my hearts not quite in it, and I'm no faker. But the frosty pavements are definitely giving me a helping hand.
There is a new addition to the CRNY team. Her name is Penny. Penny Pentax (the camera). She's so lush and this is her first snap. Love her work. Sooo this is a little assortment of nice that I wanted to share with you. The bag is a delicious blend of antique and faux, the mirror is a super sexi secret santa present from Russell of 'I am on the List' and the Minnie ears. Oh, the Minnie ears. Truth be told I don't wanna take them off. I wear them cleaning my room, I wear them on the phone, and I especially wear them when rolling around playing silly beggars with the BOY. Ask Santa for some. They cheer me, half-way to christmas cheer.
